Global Recycling Day 2022
Global Recycling Day raises awareness of the importance recycling plays in preserving our primary resources and securing the future of our planet.
Here at St. Eval, reduce, reuse, renew and recycle is our company-wide policy and culture. Being based on a working farm, we are acutely aware of just how important the environment is and how vital it is that we look after it.
Recycling is a key part of the circular economy, helping to protect our natural resources. Did you know that each year the ‘Seventh Resource’ (recyclables) saves over 700 million tonnes in CO2 emissions? This is projected to increase to 1 billion tons by 2030. There is no doubt recycling plays a vital role in saving the future of our planet.
Environmentally Friendly
As a business, our ethos is focused on reusing, recycling and reducing wherever possible, contributing to the circular economy and minimising waste.
Last year we successfully removed all bubble wrap from our dispatch packaging, favouring recycled paper instead, as well as moving to the use of paper packaging tape as an alternative to the plastic-based cello tapes.
We’re also mindful of the environmental impact of our labels and product packaging, meaning we only work with FSC Certified paper stocks which are recyclable, and companies that demonstrate a commitment to promoting sustainable solutions. We source environmentally friendly paper for everything from labels through to postcards and point of sale materials.
We also take additional steps by:
- re-using old packaging where possible
- adopting a sustainable approach to waste management by working closely with DCW to send zero waste to landfill
- eliminating single-use plastic across the company and re-designing collections to remove non-recyclable plastics
- our strong commitment to environmental practices.
For our two hand care products that do come in plastic bottles, our Botanical Hand Wash and Botanical Hand Lotion, for safety reasons we chose recycled plastic over glass alternatives. Bathrooms and kitchens typically have hard surfaces and using plastic eliminates the hazard of broken glass. In addition, glass often requires more energy to manufacture and transport than that of recycled plastic. We encourage customer to reuse and recycle these bottles and are launching cost-effective refillable options for these in the coming months.
Creative Pot Recycling
When we design our candles, we keep in mind that the product's lifetime goes beyond when the wax is finished so you are left with a beautiful container to repurpose afterwards.
Some of our favourite ways to upcycle and repurpose your St. Eval candle containers are:
- Create a plant pot for potting plants, flowers and herbs
- A vase for freshly cut flowers from the garden
- A handy desk tidy
- A trinket holder
- Or even a pinch pot for salt in your kitchen! (our terracotta tealights are perfect for this)
Global Recycling Day was created to recognise and celebrate the importance of recycling and the role it plays in securing the future of our planet. We encourage all of our customers to help support this by recycling your St. Eval packaging, repurpose and upcycle your candle pots and reuse wherever possible to minimise waste. For example, our packaging fill can be reused as kraft wrapping paper for a birthday gift.
We’d love to hear your feedback on any areas you feel we can improve on, we welcome feedback and are always looking at ways we can do more and do better for the planet. Share your feedback with us on email marketing@st-eval.com.
