Folk - Supporting the Arts | Cousin Jack's

Folk - Supporting the Arts | Cousin Jack's

Following the launch of our new Folk Collection, inspired by the magical beauty and folklore of Cornwall, we are so pleased to be supporting the Arts with a percentage of our Folk Collection going to two incredible arts charities - Creative Kernow and Acting for Others.

In this blog series, we want to shine a light on the  fantastic projects  Creative Kernow's FEAST and Re-Ignition programme helps to support, starting with Cousin Jack’s.

Cousin Jack's are a Cornwall based professional theatre company that creates work to inspire children and their families. They are most well-known for their adaptation of the much-loved Cornish children's book, The Mousehole Cat. We spoke with Guy Watson, Artistic Director at Cousin Jack’s, to learn more about how FEAST and the Re-Ignition project helped them in their time of need earlier this year.

“This Easter we had planned to open our brand-new Cornish stage-adaptation of, 'Percy Pengelly and the Wibble-Wobble' by Cadgwith-based author, Jenny Steele Scolding. With tickets sold for the performances at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens near Penzance and schools across Cornwall booked up to create their own version of the show in our circus big-top tent it was devastating for the whole company when we realised it wouldn't be possible to go ahead. Quickly, and with the support of a Re-Ignition Grant from FEAST, we repurposed much of the work we had already put in to making the show and created 'Percy Pengelly and the VIRTUAL Wibble-Wobble' - a filmed, audiobook adaptation. Our aim was to share something very Cornish, very family-focused and very silly with children, dads, grans, aunts, mums and uncles wherever they were in the country or indeed the world - we reached Minnesota! Thanks to FEAST we were able to digitally bring together the whole family to hear (and see) a truly multi-generational Cornish tale.

"THANK YOU! Should have taken our grandson to this when he should have been coming down for Easter. Instead, we watched it together, albeit with 260 miles between us! He loved it and so did we. Well done!" – Audience Comment
